Coaxial speakers reproduce a wide range of audio frequencies by combining a woofer and tweeter into one speaker’s location. Because of this broader coverage of frequencies, vehicle manufacturers often use coaxial, or “full range”, speakers in factory audio systems.
Factory car audio systems usually include either 6.5″ or 6″ by 9″ coaxial door speakers. These common sizes make replacing your vehicle’s factory door speakers an easy and affordable do-it-yourself car audio upgrade. This “door swap” involves removing the door panels and factory speakers, and replacing them with speakers of the same size. Later, you can even upgrade to component speakers using the same 6.5″ speaker cutouts.
